How To Load RIngtones, Wallpapers, Games, Themes on a ic902 w/ a USB Cable

Firstly, you must have BitPim, and a working knowledge of how to operate it.
Secondly, I am going to say sending ringtones, games, etc. to your phone over the air is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier and in my opinion more convenient, but for those of you that want the option of using a data cable, here it is.

1) Connect your phone to BitPim. Browe to the Motorola>Shared>Jas>Content folder. In here are all your games, ringers, screensavers, and themes. The Jad/Jar files are games and apps, the GC/GCD files are everything else. All are numbered in the order downloaded. Look at the list, and take note of the highest number. In hte case of my phone, the highest I already had was number 71. The files your going to upload need to be renamed to the next sequencial number, in this case 72.

2) If you are uploading a ringtone, screensaver, or theme, rename to the number, with a .gc extension (a theme should already have a .gc extension, so just rename it to the number, along with its matching .gcd file). In the case of my phone, I was upload a ringer called "Spiderpig.mp3" so I am going to rename the file to 72.gc. If I were uploading a game, I would rename the jad/jar files to 72.jad/72.jar

3) Now if you are uploading a ringer or screensave, you need to create a .JCD file, which is like a JAD file for ringtones, screensavers, and themes (you should already have one for your theme). The GCD file is basically just a text file that tells the phone what kind of file the .GC is, and what the phone should do with it. This is what the GCD file for my Spiderpig ringer looks like:
Code:
Content-Type: audio/mp3
Content-Name: Spiderpig.mp3
Content-Version: 1.0
Content-Vendor: FunForMobile Inc.
Content-URL: http://t1.funformobile.com/Spiderpig.mp3
Content-Size: 72559
4) Copy/Paste the above into a new text document. Change the file names to match your ringer, and also change the size to mat ch yours. This is done by right-clicking on the .GC (or.MP3) file , selectiong properties, and putting size in the .GCD file, NOT the "Size On Disk". If you are uploading a wallpapers, change the first line to read this:

Code:
Content-Type: image/jpeg
Save the text document as a .GCD file numbered to match your .GC file. We are now ready to upload.

5) In BitPim, browse to the Motorola>Shared>Jas>Temp>Install folder. In there, it should be empty. Drag/Drop your GC/GCD or JAD/JAR files there. It will take a minute to upload the files. When both are uploaded, disconnect shutdown bitpim, disconnect your phone, turn it off, then back on. wait a few seconds after it boots back up, and your new content should be there.

Attached is the finished GC/GCD (rar'd up for your convenience) of homer singing Spiderpig from the new Simpsons movie. Besides being hilarious, this should serve as a good reference to start making your own.

Enjoy.

It is an MP3. Just with the extension renamed. Simply rename the .GC file to a .MP3 and there you go.

I followed all the other instructions to a "T" and still do not get it to work, by doing this. For the content-URL, how important is it that it actually have a URL? I took the mp3s from my machine and posted them to a publicly available url on my web server. I made up a Content-Vendor, and changed the Content-Name.

Other than that, I have done nothing different than you. Any ideas? I ended up doing this over the "air". I would much rather do it from the machine.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the double post. I had no "EDIT" choice for my previous one. I just wanted to add that the first gcd I made, I did in notepad. I downloaded the one from my phone that came from the "over the air thread" Here to my machine. It had line breaks in the file. I then used MS Visual Interdev to modify that file, and test.

Here is what I found. By not changing the url at all, just changing what I wanted to mp3 to read as in the selection part of the phone, and uploading both to the phone, it worked. Then, I made up a fake url, where nothing exists, and re uploaded. Still works. So I think to answer my previous question, the URL does not seem to make a difference, at this time.

I am still curious what I may have done wrong with notepad. I went back and looked for extra spacing, found nothing. Also, the other gcd files that came on the phone, do not have line breaks in the file, while looking at them with notepad. So I do not think that was the problem.

Anyone have any ideas on what I may have done wrong with my original gcd? Any problems that you have had in the past?

Great, forum, glad I found it.
