new nightwish singer good? better? worse? I have a strong feeling gp hates it. I think that she is good but the sound of the band has changed dramatically so much that they should have a new name. I do like that the guitarist sings more. I also think the song bye bye beautiful is such a slap in the face for the previous singer being such a bitch.

Though I like Symphonic music and I can really enjoy well done classical music there is something about operatic vocals and metal that just don't mesh well for me. To each it's own.

I have always enjoyed metal but death and black metal had to be an acquired taste. I remembered the first time I heard the vocals and thought damn, if the dude just sang this would be an awesome song.... fast forward 7 years and these are the types of vocals that i'm digging now..... http://www.zshare.net/audio/758434627fee7f/

It's an acquired taste, everyone that I know that enjoys metal eventually gets bored and seeks something heavier, faster, more intense and different.
If you truly enjoy metal the deep growls and shrieking vocals become an instrumental part of the music.

For those that can't stand it there will always be a Korn or Slipknot like band to enjoy

I have to admit that you're right on the money when you say that people get bored and seek something heavier... I started off listening to the gymclass heroes, then got into listening to korn, system of a down, slipknot, etc.. and I'm getting bored of that too. I think I need to start listening to more metal music to form that aquired taste..

Start with a band that has a vocalist that mixes clean vocals with growling vocals. The more you hear the growls mixed in the more you begin to enjoy the growling parts because that's usually the heavier part of the song.

Older Fear Factory is a good choice.
Depending on how progressive you are, Opeth is the best choice.

What I especially love about Opeth is how melodic the instruments are at times but the lead vocalist mixes it with the heaviest and deepest vocals then transitions in to singing like a 10 yr old boy. AMAZING band!!

Awesome thanks Goat, I'll look for some torrents for opeth. I do want to get used to the growling vocals because there's no question in the fact that I love the instrumentals.

Actually come to think of it... SOAD too at first they sometimes did the growling scream, not like heavy metal of course but growling none the less, and I didn't like it at first but then all of a sudden I like that shit after getting used to it..

I actually like them, but I don't like any of the slow songs.. I don't think I like any slow rock/metal songs though (Cept for 80's rock songs) It's funny cause actually after you explained how you hear the growling as more of like another instrumeny instead of singing I started to think of it that way and like it more now. I guess that's the trick. Anyway I'm downloading more shit you posted to check it out.

Can't remember if I posted this up on here before but if you are into classic rock at all (Zeppelin, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc) Check this group out. They sound like all the previously mentioned all mixed into one. Pretty badass cd if you like that type of rock.

I was looking to buy some T-shirts at spencers and I started talking to this dude that works there about music. I told him about Graveworm and he put me onto Job for a Cowboy. I looked up some of there songs on youtube, then downloaded a discography from bit-torrent, most of their shit was great just a couple songs that I thought where just ok.

10,000 points (downloads) = 30 day RS premium account (same for megaupload)

If anyone has any doom/sludge metal to recommend, let me know (preferably more doom). I love to just sit in the dark and play this stuff.

Looking for some new stuff. Bands I already have that kinda fall into this are Witch, Electric Wizard, The Hidden Hand, etc.

Here is a generic definition of the category in case ya don't know.

Doom metal is a form of heavy metal music that emerged as a recognized sub-genre during the first half of the 1980s. Generally, doom metal features very slow tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "denser" or "heavier" sound than other metal genres. Both the music and the lyrics intend to evoke a sense of dread or impending doom, and an atmosphere of darkness and despair.

BLACK TIDE burst onto the metal scene with a month-long stint opening up the main stage of Ozzfest. According to a press release, the band "not only embrace the charisma, character and unwavering attitude of those who shredded before them, but they do so in a manner that would make the virtuosos that inspired them proud. The results are a renegade metallic assault that America hasn't encountered since METALLICA killed 'em all in '83. BLACK TIDE are not only bringing music back from the dead, but they're returning the power to metal. The meltdown is long overdue…

I'm not sure but he was like what was the motivation for the new album and they said they slowed down to get radio play and he said well then you basically sold out? I hink it was back in '04 don't think it was blood mountain. SO that wold make it leviathin right? They smoked a lot of pot to write blood mountain haha.

I was like wtf i'm at ozzfest it's going to break and i already have it. His fucking roadies were getting slick saying o the cds are made to be really durable this was the concert i tore my shoulder at and i was like yeah so was my arm but the mosh pit is a mean motherfucker. Moments before that he said he was going to walk back to the tent and say what's up to every person he could. I wish i would have stayed there and called him out on his bullshit.

I have been a Deftones listener since the days of Adrenaline. These guys have definitely had their ups and downs musically but the Saturday Night Wrist album is simply fucking amazing. Up until this album I have purchased their music and followed them closely however I lost track and never really bothered to buy Wrist. Thankfully I happened to hear "Hole in the Earth" on my Sirius radio as I sped home at the break of midnight recently.

Saturday Night Wrist is welcome break from the thunderous double bass drumming of the death scene and a soothing vocal performance by Chino Moreno was a much needed diversion from the usual black metal shrieking in my life. Once more The Deftones have managed to take the breath directly from my lungs.

I am definitely going to pick up a legit copy on Thursday.

All said and done i miss the days of adrenaline. That was what Nu-metal should have been super chummy, grungey, and dark. Though i do love how they have progressed over the years no matter what they do they do it to the fullest they have stayed one of my favorite bands over the years, even as i have progressed into the darker side of oz.

That sucks i thought that was something else because i was under the impression he name was oozed. The drummer is hosting a drum competition to see who can play a song of this album the best. I'll have to give this a run through meshuggah is usually one of my favorites. That off beat drumming always gets me.

I know there is about 8 songs that are floating around now, just haven't seen the rest yet. I heard that rumor as well, that would be badass!

On a side note, I will be catching Testament on 5/3 here in IL.

Looks like the testament/heaven and hell/judas priest/motorhead tour is gonna happen!!

TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy announced onstage last night (Sunday, April 6) at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City that his band has been confirmed as the opening act on the upcoming JUDAS PRIEST, HEAVEN AND HELL and MOTΦRHEAD tour, which is scheduled to take place this summer.

"We'll be on first, and we're only gonna have 30 minutes, so we won't be doing any talking," Billy said. "We're just gonna hit you hard — bam, bam, bam, bam — with everything we've got."

On April 2, Pollstar.com — the companion web site of the concert industry's leading trade publication — released (and then quickly removed) what appear to be several dates for the tour, which is being promoted by Live Nation.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding the much-rumored trek, Pollstar.com listed the following TESTAMENT arena dates during the month of August:

Aug. 07 - Bristow, VA @ Nissan Pavilion At Stone Ridge
Aug. 09 - Holmdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Aug. 10 - Wantagh, NY @ Nikon At Jones Beach Theater
Aug. 13 - Toronto, ON @ The Molson Amphitheatre
Aug. 15 - Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun
Aug. 16 - Burgettstown, PA @ Post-Gazette Pavilion
Aug. 18 - Clarkston, MI @ DTE Energy Music Theatre
Aug. 19 - Tinley Park, IL @ First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre

**IMPORTANT**: The above-listed dates were provided by Pollstar and should be treated as a *rumor only* until officially confirmed by the bands involved with the tour or the tour's organizers, Live Nation.

In an interview with "The Classic Metal Show" which aired on March 29, JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford stated about the trek, "Live Nation are promoting the tour, and I guess the professional way of dealing with this is to say that Live Nation will be making an official announcement probably a few days from now. But it's difficult to keep that kind of thing quiet 'cause… If it does happen, and it's looking very real, it's gonna be one of the biggest metal shows in the States this year. . . You have to wait for the official announcement because it has to be sanctioned by management and the lawyers in the suits and that other rubbish. But if we get what we are hoping to get, I think it's gonna be an absolutely sensational, killer American tour — 'cause it won't happen anywhere else in the world, this lineup. It'll just be for the States."

I know we have some Deftones fans here.
---

DEFTONES will enter a Sacramento, California studio later this month with producer Terry Date (SOUNDGARDEN, PANTERA) and engineer Scott Olson (DEFTONES, UNEARTH) to begin recording the band's sixth studio album, "Eros", tentatively due before the end of the year.

Commented frontman Chino Moreno: "So these past few weeks have been just a little barbarous for us as we get closer to the actual recording part of this record. April 14th is our official start date. Our longtime producer Terry Date graced us with a short visit early last week to hear the songs and do some pre-production. Now it's pretty much crunch hour trying to stick with our plan to have everything written before we start tracking the drums. Hard for me to describe what this record will sound like. So far, it's shaping up to be our most unorthodox piece of work, not only sound-wise but the way a lot of the songs have come about. There is also some of that good old 'fuck you, I hope you die!' aggression I know a lot of you love and miss from us."

Moreno recently told UK magazine Kerrang! that the songwriting for the new CD was coming along much faster than it has in the past. Moreno said, "We've certainly taken our time on the last few records but this one has happened very quickly. We got off tour and took a month off. Then we went into the studio and wrote a lot of music very quickly...The most important thing we had to do was to break our habits and change the way we've done things for the last few years."

Moreno explained that the band took much longer to come up with material in the past because "everyone was working separately. We would record our parts and then email them out without actually seeing each other...This time, we were all together and that really helped."

The band's last CD, "Saturday Night Wrist", came out in October 2006 and its creation nearly resulted in the band's demise. But Moreno said, "Our working relationship is better than it's ever been before. As a result, everything has improved -- our friendships and our lives. We're all really happy now."

Ashes Divide - Keep Telling Me It's Alright
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OTS8HBB7

Ashes Divide (commonly typeset as ASHES dIVIDE) is an American rock band formed by guitarist Billy Howerdel, who had also formed A Perfect Circle. As of January 2008, the only known members of the band are Billy Howerdel, who played almost every instrument used (vocals, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard),[1] Josh Freese (drums), and Devo Keenan (cello), the son of Maynard James Keenan.[2] In addition to Freese and Devo, the record will feature drummer Dean Menta, Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano, Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba and former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin.

The band's first single, "The Stone", made its radio premier on January 22, 2008.[3] Their debut album, Keep Telling Myself It's Alright, was released on April 8. On February 22, Howerdel explained on Chicago radio station Q101 that the date was pushed back from March 18 because of the record label. "The Stone" and a portion of "Enemies" can be heard on the band's MySpace page.[4] Billy Howerdel revealed the touring lineup to The Gauntlet on Mar 20, 2008. The tour lineup will consist of Jeff Friedl on drums, Matt McJunkins on bass, and Andy Gerold on lead guitar. A fifth member might be announced shortly for keyboards.[5]

Demon hunter is ok. Ok at best. As i lay dying is horrible. If you really want o get into that syle of music that is good you should check out unearth, all that remains, the red chord, cathedral, exxtol, and so many others. Also i don't know about the other bands but AILD and DemonHunter are christian(along with exxtol) not like it effects he music but if you are trying to get into christian metal and hardcore i can suggest some better bands than those. It's a track from Opeth's newest CD which will release on June 3rd.

Personally I don't like it that much. Opeth lost the poetic method of delivering music that originally made me fall in love with their progressive death sound.

Dragonforce is speed metal it's supposed to be cheesy. Faster than thrash but with none of the darkness. I don't mind them but i prefer the bands that have put less pop into the genre (bands like rhapsody) I'm suprised you don't liek COB goat. It's pretty much the same brutal death that decide is known for. I love the almost melodic sound of the riffs and the blend of the growling vocals.

Good enough to work out to but nothing new or genre redefining.

Well that's deicide for you.

Yes indeed. Credit goes to them and bands such as Cannibal Corpse for showing the Euro's that Americans have the ability make a significant impact in the world of Metal. They can almost be credited as the creators of this type of American Death but lets face it, just as Corpse, Deicide have become redundant and generic.

It's still worth a listen though.

Some of COB songs are good but I cannot stand to listen to an entire album, too fucking generic and gimmicky. The only album I ever listened to completion is Follow the Reaper..... garbage!!

you're nuts, children of bodom is one of the most unique and talented bands out there IMO

(other than the fact that their latest album sucks)

To each it's own. Based on the music that's shared in this thread and the bands that are discussed it's obvious that I listen to a more raw and brual sound than any of the posters here. I can understand why a band such as In Flames and COB would be loved while bands like Gorgoroth and Grind Inc. would be over looked. Sales figures and mass appeal are a guarantee for bands like COB.

I don't expect my point of view to be shared however I still can't stand COB. If they represent creativity within the metal scene, we are all doomed to an eternity of generic scandinavian melodic death.

Did you listen to this? If so, is it Filter's softer side or is it heavier?

Personally I think that they make better soft than hard rock.

Its a softer filter for the most part....some stuff gets kinda repetitive, but its alright and the vocals are great
